Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an improved service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
